International Center of Photography

Well I woke up early Friday morning because this was my museum day! So I got some breakfast at a diner just a couple blocks away from my hotel and had a chicken salad sandwich. I have the habit of watching television when I eat... so I was staring at the little T.V they had hung up on the wall. When suddenly..... DUH DUH DUH They were showing something about a fashion photography and that there was were a gallery thing @ the International Center of Photography. So I took out my Blackberry and jotted down the address and realized it only a couple blocks north from where I was. Then I asked for the check and skipped over to the museum... (not really lol)  I went inside and paid for my ticket. You weren't allowed to take pictures so I pulled out my little red Moleskine notebook to take notes. (thanks Moca) The 2 level of the museum featured work by up and coming photographers that have made an impact over the past 2 years in advertising and magazine editorials. There were a couple that caught my eye like Steven Klien, Mert Alas & Marcus Pigget, Matthias Vrienes, Bruce Weber, Micheal Thompson, Terry Richardson and Sarah Moon. Their work was presented as tear sheets (magazine cut outs) which I thought was very cool.
The first level featured photographs by Edward Steichen and Martin Munkacsi. All of their photos were just breath-taking... Edward Steichen did a lot of studio shots that were gorgeous, simple, and had great lighting. As for Martin Munkacsi his photographs really captured the movement and is known for his cropping techniques. They also had just recently found Martin's originals photographs and got to see them before being cropped... Uhhhh just amazing...
Overall-> straight from my notes- Fashion photography has def changed these past years. Edward Steichen captured the simplicity and elegance. While Munkacsi captured the movement and cropped out all the excess to get to the point. Upstairs was just an inspiration... filled with magazine cut-outs and style from all around the world. What I noticed was that most of them were telling a story that was beautiful, fun, and witty. And that's something I want to contribute to photographs...  something that is beautiful, creative, exciting, and elegant. To provide that extra kick that makes the picture worth looking at.

IM BACK!!!

Hello everyone! I came back from my trip Sunday morning after being out for 3 days n probably only got about 15 hours of sleep... Oh how I miss the city already :*( tears... But I'm def going back very very soon...
OMG I don't think I've ever walked soooo much in my whole entire life... I walk from my hotel on 39th st and 9th ave all the way to Chinatown! Seriously public transportation up there is a blessing and rode the bus to downtown and hopped on trains and taxis all around the city. I also got to hang out with some of my buddies up there which was pretty cool.
I only ended up taking a few pictures with my Canon nevertheless I bought a cute little camera called the "Golden Half". It's film so I have to wait to develop the pictures so I can post them up. :) Soooo... every time I go up there I have a list of places I must to go to: H&M, Patricia Field, Marc By Marc Jacobs, my favorite Vietnamese Restaurant, Central Park, and this amazing shoe store in Soho (my little secret). I was very very happy that I got to go to all my little spots and even got the chance to go over the bridge to Brooklyn. Where I did a little thrift store shopping and partying in Williamsburg. I cant wait until I go back :) oh I almost forgot... I also went to 2 museums but I'll be writing about them in another post... but here are some pics from my Canon

BTW- The weather was sooooooo beautiful!!! in the 60's and 70's!!!! I bought the heat! lol

I was sitting on the new red steps in Times Square.

The last time I'm going to see this Virgin Music Store in Times Square.

Anna Sui
I'm a sucker for military jackets and tights... and Ms. Anna Sui definitely gave me goose pimples when I set my big brown eyes on those shimmer purple tights! AHHH SO FAB! I'm in love with the colors, boots, fabrics, and feathers. Btw the hat Sasha Pivovarova is wearing reminds me of Carrie's blue bird in Sex in the City.

Diesel Black Gold
This season Diesel was inspired by the roaring 20's but stayed true to today's street fashion.

MARC JACOBS
Totally 80's!! Massive shoulders, puffy skirts, blazing colors, metallics, and crazy huge sunnys to die for! Every girl had a different hair style and stunning make-up. "I was thinking about the good old days in New York," he said after the show, "when getting dressed up was such a joy."
